THE FRICTION

A translated string looks correct in a spreadsheet but becomes ambiguous or too long in the interface. By the time a reviewer sees the screen, the source copy may have changed again.

THE PRODUCT WE’RE EXPLORING

LocaleLens, in three parts.

LocaleLens would connect a source string, its current screen context, and reviewer feedback. The first pilot would start with imported string files and manually supplied screenshots.

Three planned capabilities we want to validate with early users.

01 / PLANNED

Context beside the string

Planned review cards would pair translations with the intended screen and a short usage note.

02 / PLANNED

Terminology and placeholders

Proposed checks would flag glossary inconsistencies and changed variables for a reviewer to inspect.

03 / PLANNED

Sign-off for the current version

Planned approval would be tied to the specific source text and translation, with edits returning it to review.

AN INTENDED WORKFLOW

A clearer next step.
Less work around it.

A focused approach for small software teams shipping a product in several languages with external reviewers.

  1. 01

    Collect a small release bundle

Bring approved source strings, sample translations, and non-sensitive screen images.

  2. 02

    Review meaning and fit

Check language, placeholders, and the visible layout with a qualified reviewer.

  3. 03

    Export approved strings

Return reviewed translations to your current build process with unresolved items visible.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

Can I translate a file now?

No. LocaleLens is a research waitlist. File imports, translation suggestions, checks, and reviewer workspaces are not available.

Will automated checks guarantee good translations?

No. Meaning, tone, grammar, and cultural context require qualified human review. Technical checks can only flag selected issues.

Will it connect to my repository or design files?

No integration is active. The first pilot would evaluate manual imports before choosing any account connections.
